Hair and
makeup should be an important part of your competition planning
and preparation since you are also being judged on your overall
appearance. You want to present the most polished and professional
look possible. Here are few tips to help you put the finishing
touches on competition preparations.
Hair:
Neat and off your face. Choose a style that's quick and easy for
you to duplicate because you don't know how much time you'll have
between rounds.
Makeup:
- Foundation:
Choose a shade that will match your skin tone once your competition
color is applied.
- Powder:
A sheer powder is best for setting your foundation.
- Blush: Use the same color you
would normally use, but apply more of it because the stage lighting
will wash you out.
- Eye shadow: Choose colors that
will compliment your features and bring out your eyes. Again,
apply darker and heavier than you normally would due to avoid
looking washed out.
- Eyeliner: Apply bolder than
you normally would to ensure your eyes don't disappear on stage.
- Mascara: Curl lashes and apply
at least 2 coats. If you have short lashes you may want to consider
using false eye lashes.
- Eyebrows: Make sure eye brows
are clean and shaped to compliment the shape of your eyes. Fill
in brows with color that matches your natural hair color.
- Lipstick: Define lips if necessary
with lip liner that will match the lip color you choose. Fill
in with a complimentary color and gloss. If bright red is not
your color, don't use it. The idea is not to make your lips
draw more attention than your physique.
- Nails & Toes: Select a neutral
shade. A French manicure/pedicure is the best choice, but if
your nails are not long enough for a French manicure, then consider
getting acrylics, gel overlays, fiber, etc. Whatever you decide,
please...please...please do not try and match your nail polish
color to your suit color. Neon blue nail polish looks ridiculous
and does nothing but draws the judges' attention away from the
physique you've worked so hard on.
Personally,
I use various products from the following makeup lines: Bobbi
Brown, MAC, NARS,
Urban Decay and L'Oreal.
Experiment
to find what works best for you.
